CNC machining is a manufacturing process, often used for rapid prototypes and low volume manufacturing.

It is a subtractive process, in which a variety of tools, such as drills, lathes, and grinders cut away at a piece of raw material, which can be plastic, aluminum, stainless steel, or another type of material.

The machining tools are all controlled by a computer, hence the name CNC, which stands for “Computer Numerical Control.”
